Bobby Joe Phipps

Bobby Joe Phipps, age 81, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorsie Artrip Phipps; his maternal grandparents, Bob and Maggie Colley Artrip and his paternal grandparents, Joel and Virgie Lee Phipps. Survivors Include: His wife: Jewell Phipps Two Children: Jason (Amanda) Phipps and Joelle (Chris) Kent One Sister: Janet Lester Six Grandchildren: Jillian (Adam) Clark, Josie Kent, Hudson Kent, Hannah Phipps, Zachary Phipps, and Zoey Phipps Nieces and Nephew: Mark (Kim) Lester, Lisa Poole, and Amber Deboard Great Nieces and Nephews: Sarah, Morgan, Emily, Matthew, and Brooke The family will receive friends Monday, November 28, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel followed by a service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Skeetrock Community Church with John Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Phipps Family Cemetery, Skeetrock Section, Clintwood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Freddie Hamilton, Freeman Hamilton, Larry Barton, Jack Farmer, Zachary Phipps, and Robert Monahan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Lester, Eric Godfrey, Tim Jayne, Jeff Newberry, Mike Yates, Eddie Monahan, and Raymond Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your choice of a Christian missionary that is spreading the Gospel. From Bobby Joe Phipps: I made my living, like my dad, I was a merchant. I went to Skeetrock School. I met my wife at a family reunion. I guess we were “rednecks”! We built a log house behind the church where we lived and raised our children. Jewell is my wife and the most important person in my life. I am looking forward to “together forever” with her. I have had a good life, blessed far more than I deserve. I’ve had a long life, a wonderful wife, and family. I’m so proud of my children and grandchildren. The most blessed event in my life was of course when I got saved. Next most important event was when I met Jewell. Special friends? I can’t name them because I will leave someone out, but I could not have made it without them and their prayers and their love. I am a very weak Christian but God says He can make the weak strong which He has done for me. I experienced cancer four times. Each time it spread. Numerous surgeons and hospitalizations, ER visits, etc. I benefited greatly by what I went through. One thing I learned is that you can have cancer and still have joy and peace as a Christian. The best prayer you will ever pray is “not my will but thy will be done”. No matter what you ask, God has something far better. He can do exceedingly and abundantly beyond what we can imagine. I will have the “time of my life when the time of my life is over…and I’ll get carried away when Rick carries me away”. It will be Party Time! The one that I love wants me by His side…so crank up the band, It’s Party Time! This is the end of my body here on earth, but not the end of me. I am more alive than ever! When you finally make your entrance to that city, look for me for I will be there too. When we all see Jesus, what a day of rejoicing that will be. Jesus is calling…I must go! My faith has turned to sight…what a time! The party is there, not here on earth. I hear the singing! How I want to see Him and look upon His face. Goodbye! I will see you in heaven!
