Carter Byrd Deel 79, Middle of the World Community, Dante, VA passed away July 13, 2020 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton Virginia from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Susie Counts Deel of the home. One daughter Loma Deel Miller (Roma) of Lenoir, NC. One Grandson Matthew Miller (Jamie) of Salem, OR and Four great-granddaughters Lily, Charlotte, Kayla and Rylan Miller of Salem, OR. Four Brothers Dean Deel (Sandra) of Clinchco, VA, Dwight Deel (Cloris) of Jacksboro, TN, David Deel (Carolyn) of Blue Ridge, VA and Hubert Deel of Lick Creek Community, Dante, VA. Four sisters Vina Reilly (Barney) of Zanesville, OH, Corneil Michael (Ron) of Crossville, TN, Sharon Patton (Ron) of Plain Dealing, LA and Debbie Deel (Lonnie) of Floyd, VA, Two sisters-in-Law Rita Deel of Hampton, VA and Retha Grizzle of Haysi, VA and dozens of nieces and nephews that he loved greatly. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Lillie Powers Deel, Two brothers Archie Deel, Garner Deel. Two Sisters Elsie Edwards and Ellen Deel. Three brothers-in-law Charlie Deel, Gordon Edwards, and Lee Grizzle. Over the years he worked in construction, as a rural mail carrier out of Dante, VA, flag man, lawn maintenance and janitor in the Dickenson County schools system through a local jobs training program. He loved children and many of his nieces and cousins would come to him for him to brush their hair because he was so gentle. He loved animals, gardening; both vegetables and flowers. He enjoyed taking long walks through the mountains with his dogs and with his daughter and her family when they would visit. He enjoyed bluegrass music and loved to flat foot (clogging). He was always kind, gentle and exhibited a willing hand to help anyone that he could. Thanks to his in home aids that assisted in his care. And special thanks go out to Teresa Calo who went above and beyond in helping him and Susie. The family will receive friends at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel, Clintwood, VA on Friday, July 17, 2020 at 10:30 am with funeral services to be conducted at 11:00 a.m. by Dr. Joseph Fuller. Burial will follow in the Deel Family Cemetery, Barnhouse Circle, Dante, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Gordon Deel, Zackary Grizzle, Henry Edwards, Robert Dixon. Honorary Pallbearers are Smiddy Harrison who was Carter’s best buddy, Steve Rose, Mike Rose, and Shirles Hill. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Parkinson’s Disease Association. Mullins Funeral Home and Staff are serving the Deel family.
