Denise Gray

Denise Gray, age 71, quietly departed this world on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at her home in the Flemingtown Community of Clintwood,Virginia, after a brief illness. She was born in Fairbanks, Alaska and was of the Baptist faith. Ms. Gray had a Bachelor of Fine Arts from VCU. After graduation from college, she and her high school sweetheart, Jerry Gray, were married. While he attended Law School, she worked as an art director for a printing company, and a law book publisher, The Michie Company, in Charlottesville. She was the office manager at Gerald Gray Law Office for twenty-seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Elmer and Marie Archbold. Denise practiced her art in many ways, from her beautiful flower gardens at the law office, and her home. Eagle Rock Estates in Flemingtown was one of her projects, from the layout of the roads, barn, ponds, and log cabin adjacent to the large pond. She drew the blueprints for their three-story cedar sided home. She taught painting at the Mountain School of Arts and Crafts, at the Cumberland Museum. She loved her horse, Diablo, a Paso Fino, which she rode on the trails with her husband almost every weekend the weather permitted, from 1996-2017. She credits their friend Jerry Dean Mullins for teaching them how to ride the Cumberland-Pine Mountain. She was an avid reader, and was one of the most frequent visitors to the library. Survivors Include: Her Husband: Gerald “Jerry” Lee Gray Her Daughter: Jessica Gray (Nicole Follmer) of Cambridge, Massachusetts Her Son: Forrest Gray of Brooklyn, New York One Brother: William E. “Bill” Archbold of Sacramento, California Two Sisters: Susan (Larry) Farin of Portland, Oregon and Beth (Bob) Peery of Marrietta, Georgia Two Grandchildren: Kira Evelyn Follmer-Gray and Felix Asa Follmer-Gray Her fur babies, Sadie and Blue. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.mm with singing and music by Linda Dixon, Jimmy Blaine Mullins, and Ron Kennedy. Some reminiscing. Following the Celebration of Life, refreshments will be served at the Law Office of Gerald Gray, across the street from the funeral home. Mullins Funeral Home and Staff are serving the Gray Family.
