Farrell Wayne Dotson

Farrell Wayne Dotson, 89, stepped into the presence of the Lord on Friday, May 12th, 2023 peacefully at his home. He was raised on Honey Camp, in Clintwood VA. He was the son of the late Jett Russell Dotson and Hettie Buchanan Dotson. He married the love of his life, Betty Jo Moore in 1953 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. Wayne and Betty moved to Northern Virginia early in their lives where Wayne became an equipment operator for Vulcan Materials Company. He retired in Rockingham, NC after 37 years of service and moved back to the home place on Honey Camp. After retirement, Wayne spent his days working on the family home place and caring for all the loved ones around him. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Donald and Paul Dotson, and sisters; Ruby Dotson, Lucille Mullins and Ada Marshall. Wayne and Betty were members of The Gospel Lights singing group for many years where they attended many churches and met many friends. Wayne was a very humble, kind and gentle person. Known by most of the family as “Uncle Wayne”, he was best described by Teresa Hawkins Mullins this way: “In an often cold and dark world, he never failed to exude warmth and love. Everyone who knew him loved him. He could make the darkest day brighter with just a smile and a hug and he was generous with both. His hugs were “legendary.” He was a hero to many and will not soon be forgotten. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Phil, daughter-in-law Debra, grandsons; Chris (Amy), Larry (Holly) and Nathan (Erin),six great grandchildren, multiple devoted nieces and nephews, and many more friends. A special thank you to his caregivers who provided so much love and support when he needed it the most; Shirlene Mullins and Amanda Salyers. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17th at 1 PM with service starting at 2PM at Mullins Funeral Home in Clintwood, VA. A graveside song and prayer following the service.
