Betty Lou Phipps

Betty Lou Beverly Phipps was called to her heavenly home to be with her parents, son and husband surrounded by her family on August 12th, 2024 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born on December 5, 1943 in Clintwood Virginia and a 1963 graduate of Clintwood High School. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a great grandmother. She was a spitfire much like her younger sister Rita Gail. She had a love for bluegrass music and was a frequent visitor of the Country Cabin in Norton, Virginia. She did everything she could for her family and friends. She was always putting others before herself, a truly selfless woman she was strong, independent, resilient and never gave up without a fight. Betty Lou enjoyed thrift shopping with her daughter and granddaughter, going to get her hair done by granddaughter Jessica, riding through the mountains every chance she got, going out to dance with her friend Charlie, going to Hardee’s to sit and talk and watching Hallmark Movies and gameshows with her daughter. Betty Lou was preceded in death by her Husband; Jessee “Carl” Phipps, Son; Robert Glenn “NOB” Phipps, Father; Walter Ray Beverly and Mother; Mary “Edith” (Elkins) Beverly Survivors include: Sisters: Rita Gail (Linkey) Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia and Joyce Watson of Perry, Georgia Brother: Ralph (Rita Mae) Beverly of Cumberland, Virginia Daughter: Carla Faye Phipps Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia Granddaughters: Michaela Susan Marie (Devin) Stanley of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Tiffany LeAnn (Zach) Gardner of Big Stone Gap, Virginia and Jessica Cooper of Big Stone Gap Virginia Great-granddaughter: Lexi Rayne Cooper of Big Stone Gap, Virginia Several special nieces and nephews Special friend: Charles “Charlie” Robbins Special Grandchild: Donna (Tanner) Moore of Clintwood, Virginia Family will receive friends Thursday August 15, 2024 at 6:00 pm with a funeral service at 7:00 pm in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with clergy; Clifton Cauthorne officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel Friday August 16th 2024 where the funeral procession will leave at 10:30 am for the graveside service at the Elkins Cemetery (Warf Lane) at 11:00 am In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to great granddaughter Lexi Cooper’s college fund at 209 East 29th street south Big Stone Gap Virginia 24219 or to the Dickenson County food bank at 1286 Browning Hollow, Clintwood Virginia 24228 Pallbearers will be family and friends
