Franklin Leonard Mullins

Franklin Leonard Mullins, born September 25, 1943, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on April 3, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quiet strength and unwavering support meant everything to those who knew him. Franklin is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Mullins; his daughter, Tresa Gill; and his cherished grandson, Colt Gill, with whom he shared a special and unbreakable bond. Colt brought him tremendous pride and joy, and their time together was among the greatest blessings of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Crecia “Pat” (Roger) Rose, and his brother, Kenneth “Smiley” Mullins. A special niece, LeeAnn Harley. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Pauline Mullins; his son, Shane Mullins; his brothers, Tommy Mullins and Bobby Mullins; and his sisters, Shelia Salyers and Darlene Hoffer. A man of faith, Franklin was a member of Peuther Chapel Church. He was also deeply committed to his community and the youth around him. From 1982 to 1998, he served as a Cub Master and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 731, dedicating many years to mentoring and guiding young people through scouting. At the age of 24, Franklin suffered a mining accident that left him with injuries that caused pain for the rest of his life. In his later years, he also endured neuropathy. Despite these hardships, he carried himself with remarkable grace and strength, choosing to endure his pain quietly without the use of pain medication. His resilience and determination were an inspiration to those who knew him. Franklin loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. He was always supportive of whatever his family wanted to pursue and stood beside them every step of the way. His kindness, patience, and steady presence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to strength, faith, love, and quiet perseverance, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A graveside service to celebrate Franklin’s life will be held at a later date at Forrest Hills Memory Garden in Abingdon, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
