Pamela Yvonne McCarty

Pamela Yvonne (Deel) McCarty, passed away at Lewis Gale Salem hospital on Friday Feb. 21, 2025 after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Sadie Fuller Deel and her oldest brother Barney Keith Deel. Pam is survived by her husband and children, Matthew, Andrew, and Sadee McCarty. She is also survived by her brothers Leonard Scott Deel and Larry Deel. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Patrick McCarty and a sister in law Sherry Deel. Pam also leaves behind four nieces: Amanda, Kendra, Emily, and Alyssa, three nephews: Morgan, Leonard Scott, and Johnny Walker and a host of great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by in-laws Raymond and Vada McCarty, and very special friends Melissa Owens, Crystal Artip, and Manda Johnston. Pam was a 1993 graduate of Haysi High School and a 2002 graduate of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Pam was most recently employed by Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation in Pulaski, Virginia. Pam was loved by all who knew her and was admired by so many for her spirited fight against the disease that eventually took her life. Pam loved her family, especially all of the Fullers and Deels, and always knew the goings on in Dickenson County and in the suburbs of Richmond. She had a wide and ranging circle of friends, especially those whom she went to high school with and worked with. A day didn’t go by that someone was not calling or messaging Pam to see how she was faring from her cancer. Pam was strong, resilient, and a fighter. Life had brought her the struggles that so many see, but had also brought her the courage and perseverance to know when the struggle was at an end. The family will receive friends at 6PM on Thursday Feb. 27, 2025, with a service to follow at 7PM. The funeral for Pam will be on Friday Feb. 28, 2025, at 11AM with a committal service to Follow at the Deel family cemetery Lick creek section (Dante, Virginia). Pallbearers will be Morgan Deel, Jeremy Deel, Scotty Deel, Patrick McCarty, and other family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rodney Deel, Larry Deel, Leonard Scott Deel, Allen Deel, and Willard Holbrook. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Boyd and the ICU staff at Lewis Gale Salem, the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Blacksburg, VA, and Dr. Asher and the staff at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Lewis Gale Pulaski as well as the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice House of Roanoke, VA. Special thanks also to the staff at Fort Chiswell High School, the Wythe County School Board office, Pulaski County High School and Pulaski County Middle School for all of the kind words, prayers, and donations of money and food during Pam’s illness. Pam also had a special place in her heart for “Doc’s” kids at FCHS. Mullins Funeral Home are the consummate professionals. Lastly, thanks to everyone at Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation for their support and continued kindness. All of you who called, left messages, texted, or reached out on social media, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Pam loved you all.
