Richie Patton

Richie Dale Patton, age 63, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at his home in Clintwood, Virginia. Richie was born on January 12, 1955 in Norton, Virginia to the late Hoyt Patton and Eda Gay Patton. Richie is survived by his mother, Eda Gay Patton; his daughter, Kaitlyn Brooke Hamm and her husband Trevor; and unborn granddaughter, Axlynn Rose Hamm. Also surviving are sisters, Debbie and Donald Mullins of Bristol, Virginia; and Jeannie McFaddin of Abingdon, Virginia. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends. Richie was a faithful member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church for many years until he suffered a massive stroke three years ago. He was confined to a wheelchair and was cared for by several loving caregivers. Richie worked for 40 years in coal mines throughout Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky and developed many long lasting friendships during this time. His last job was in Cumberland, Kentucky in a repair shop rebuilding mining equipment. He put special touches on the equipment, decorating them in various themes including VA Tech Hokies, Kentucky Wildcats, Mt. Dew and his favorite-a cross. Richie was an exceptional mechanic and respected by those who worked with and knew him. Richie loved his family, his church, fishing, his canine companions, Annie and Black Shadow, and listening to bluegrass gospel music. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p. m. at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church with Lynn Vanover officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be B J Lasley, Chris Rakes, David Fultz, Brandon Mullins, Trevor Hamm, and Aiden Fultz Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Mullins and James Childress Mullins Funeral Home and Staff are serving the Patton Family.
