Royce Meade

Royce Vernon Meade, age 81, of Clintwood, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024, at home with his loving wife, Linda, and his daughter, Jennifer, by his side in Milton, Florida. He was born on June 30, 1942. Preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Inez Meade; a sister Ina Rice; a son Phillip Randall Meade; and a sister-in-law, Leticia Meade. Survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda Meade; grandchildren, Randa Meade, Kali Pruitt, Kalena Carey, Joshua Pruitt, Savanah Pruitt, Christopher Watley; Daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Pruitt; three brothers, Gordan (Diane) Meade, Gary (Carol) Meade, and Danny Meade; three sisters, Sheila (Scotty) Rose, Marlene Compton, and Donna (Raben) Fletcher and several nieces and nephews. Royce graduated from Clintwood High School in 1960 where he played football. Did his electrical apprenticeship in Norfolk. He was an electrician, a miner, a building supervisor, and a farmer. He retired from Wallens Ridge State Prison as a superintendent of Maintenance. Royce absolutely loved spending time and working on his farm. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice of Pensacola for the exceptional care they provided for over a year, caregivers at Home Helpers of Pensacola, Florida for their excellent care. We would not have been able to go through this without the help of our family Jennifer, Daniel, Kali, Joshua, Savanah, and Christopher Pruitt. A very special thank you to Gary and Carol Meade for all the times they came and visited Royce, not only in Florida, but for all the times they came to see him in the hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and the nursing home in Wise. We could not have gone through this without any of them. The family will receive friends at noon on Saturday January 13, 2023 and funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with clergymen; Eddie Kilbourne. Burial following service will be attended by family only with clergymen Eddie Kilbourne officiating. Pallbearers will be: Christopher Meade, Chris Rose, Ben Meade, Kevin Wallace, Daniel Pruitt, Jason Dingus, Matthew Dingus, and Tyler Wade. Honorary Pallbearers: Gary Meade, Gordan Meade, and Danny Meade In lieu of flowers, donations in Royce’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Pound (PO BOX 1387, Pound, VA 24279) or Gentiva Hospice of Pensacola (50 Beverly Parkway, Suite 200, Pensacola, FL 32505).
