Larry Dean Sumner

June 29, 1954 - November 26, 2021

Larry Dean Sumner, age 67, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Dewayne Sumner; his parents, James and Gertrude Sumner; and a brother, James (Junior) Sumner. He was a faithful member of Flemingtown Freewill Baptist Church for 43 years. He spent 45 years working in the coal mines from which he had just retired in March, 2021. He was looking forward to spending time with his family and going camping as often as possible. Larry loved his family unconditionally. He was a very laid back and humble person and could figure out how to fix most anything. Whenever he told you how to fix something , you knew to listen because he knew what he was talking about. Most people who knew him thought he could fix anything and they were right. If someone called on him for help he would do his best to do anything he could to help. He was always up for a good prank and a smile. Survivors Include: His Loving Wife with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of marriage: Lynn Sumner His Daughter: Jennifer Hollyfield and husband, Chris His Son: Jonathan Sumner, and wife, Jasmine Six Grandchildren: Paisley Hollyfield, Abel Hollyfield, Cambria Sumner, Casper Sumner, Aubrey Green, and Madeleine Sumner One Sister: Mary Sumner Two Brothers: Gary Sumner and Preston Sumner and his wife, Linda Several nieces and nephews The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Lester Mullins and Johnny Anderson officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at Mullins Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 to proceed to the Chester Smith Cemetery for a graveside service at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Sumner, Chris Hollyfield, Gary Sumner, Preston Sumner, Randall Mullins and Nick Mullins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Casper Sumner and Abel Hollyfield. He will be dearly missed by his family and anyone who came to know him. Even though we may not understand what happened or why, God had a plan for him, and we know Heaven gained a very special man. He was a wonderful husband, Father, Papaw, and friend. Even though he may not have said it too often, he dearly loved his family and it showed in everything he did. He was often overprotective for fear of something happening to his wife, children, or grandchildren. Though our hearts are broken, let us take some peace in knowing that he is home with his son, parents, and brother, and that we all will meet with him again soon.
