Stella Newberry

Stella Newberry, age 89, peacefully passed away Monday, September 16, 2019 at Norton Community Hospital. She was born in Dickenson County on December 17, 1929 to the late Bertie and Bertha Owens and was a lifelong Dickenson County resident. She was an employee at various places in the county and spent many years helping to support her family by working at the sewing factory co-op. She was also a homemaker and raised three sons with her late husband, Thomas Newberry, whom she married at the age of sixteen. She was known to many in the community as a friend due to her loving, affable nature. She was a member of Hill Ridge Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Roger Newberry, daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Liz) Newberry; and granddaughters, Lena Newberry and Stacy Newberry. Survivors Include: Close friend and caregiver: Coy Dotson Sisters: Dorothy Edwards and Pearlie Fuller Her Sons: Randy Newberry (husband to Cindy Newberry) and Kenneth (Kip) Newberry (husband to the late Elizabeth Newberry and now Angela Newberry) Daughter-in-law: Linda Newberry Grandchildren: Wayne Newberry (husband to Kim Newberry), Brian Newberry (husband to Elizabeth K. Newberry), and Miranda White (wife to Adrian White) Eight Great Grandchildren Further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives The family will receive friends Friday, September 20, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Keith Dotson will officiate. Singers will the Hill Ridge Singers as well as Elizabeth and Leah Newberry as well as Coy Dotson. Burial will follow in the Newberry Family Cemetery, Hill Ridge Section, Clintwood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Brian Newberry, Wayne Newberry, Adrian White, Reed McCoy, Carey Edwards, and Hunter Newberry. She will be fondly remembered by her family as a doting wife to her late husband, a loving mother and grandmother who made the most out of each day and enjoyed spending time with others, and someone who always brightened a room with her frequent laughter and radiant spirit. The family extends a special thank you to the employees at Heritage Hall in Clintwood for their devoted care to her the past four years. Your service and kindness has always been much appreciated.
