Betty Gay Stanley Bennett

Betty Gay Stanley Bennett of Clintwood, Virginia, age 51, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7th at the home of her daughter and soon to be son-in-law, after an extended illness that she fought for years. No matter the prognosis of her illness, Betty never let it hamper her spirit of fighting the good fight. Betty was known for her love of Mello-Yello and Marlboro Red 100’s, even though in recent years she had given up her Marlboro’s and switched to drinking Mountain Dew, Betty’s love for the small things and creature comforts of life never faltered. Even though she refrained from smoking, her love for her Marlboro Red 100’s never ceased. Betty loved to spend her days watching Snapped and what she called “Pimple Porn.” Betty was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, and friend. The light of her life was her only daughter Destiny. The two of them were thick as thieves, they loved to cook together, go shopping, have fashion shows, and most of all just telling each other anything and everything. Betty was born on November 15th , 1973, in Grundy, Virginia to Beulah Stanley Ramsey and the late Willard Ray Stanley. She loved spending her younger years with her brothers, which she often referred to as her first babies. She took immense pride in raising them from an early age. Betty began working at Newberry’s at the age of 15 and she graduated from Haysi High School in 1991 with many of her lifelong friends. Betty then pursued her passion of taking care of others by enrolling into Southwest Community College’s RN program. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years, mostly in the Roanoke area. On March 28th , 1996, she met the love of her life Chad, and they were wed on September 26th , 2002. They brought their one and only daughter together into this world on September 2nd , 2004. Betty was proceeded in death by her Father Willard Ray Stanley, Paternal grandparents Parkis and Beatrice Stanley, Maternal grandparents Manis and Mahala Mullins, and Husband Jessie Chadwick Bennett. Betty is survived by her mother and stepfather Beulah and Henry Ramsey of Clincho, Virginia, Daughter Destiny Bennett and Fiancé Seth Mullins of Clintwood, Virginia, Stepchildren Matthew Bennett of Grundy, Virgina, Cindy Bennett and spouse Mike Atwell of Grundy, Virginia, Brothers Willie Stanley of Morristown, Tennessee, and Roy Stanley and wife Renee of Breaks, Virginia. Grandchildren Tiffany Bennett, Stephen Trimm, Gage Atwell, Gavin Bennett, and Sebastion Salyers. Previous partner and good friend James Steve Stanley of McClure, Virginia. Several special family members including nieces, nephews, cousins. Special thanks to MSA Hospice for caring for Betty for the last 15 months of her life. She bonded with many special individuals including EJ Jackson, Josh Vestal, and Clara Rose. Clara became much more than a nurse to Betty; she became her best friend in the whole wide world. Betty often referred to her as her “girl” and they had an unbreakable bond from the beginning. Her favorite times were sipping caramel frappes and gossiping with her Clara girl. A celebration of life will be conducted at Mullins Funeral Home on November 17, 2025. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 PM. Services to follow at 7 PM. Josh Vestal officiating.
