Leonard Scott Deel

Leonard Scott (Flop) Deel, age 57, passed away on August 15, 2026. Born to the late Leonard and Sadie Deel on October 10, 1968. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Sadie Deel; one brother, Barney Deel; and two sisters, Pam McCarty and Teresa Deel. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Leonard Deel and Johnny Walker Deel; his brother, Larry (Evelyn) Deel; his sister-in-law, Sherry Deel; his brother-in-law, Matthew McCarty; and his very special cousin, Rodney Deel, who was more like a brother than a cousin. He is also survived by his nieces, Amanda Hill, Kendra Sexton, and Sadee McCarty; his nephews, Morgan Deel and Andrew McCarty; and two special nieces and nephews from marriage, Jewelia Casterline and Brayden Cooper. Scott leaves behind his beloved great-nieces and great-nephews: Hailey Hill, Kailey Hill, Jeremy Deel, Morgan Deel, Jasmine Deel, Mikey Deel, Lacy Elswick, Brantley Deel, Alyvia Sexton, and Maverick Sexton, along with many extended family members, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by knowing him. Scott leaves behind more than a name; he leaves behind stories; he leaves behind laughter; he leaves behind songs. He leaves behind memories of guitars and songbooks, family gatherings and childhood adventures, jokes and silliness, and all the little moments that seemed ordinary at the time but now mean everything. Every person who loved Scott carries a different memory of him. Together, those memories tell the story of a man who was deeply loved and will be incredibly missed. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Family will receive friends at 6:00 PM; services will follow at 7:00 PM at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel, with Clergyman Bill Campbell, Billy Campbell, and William McClanahan officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Deel Family Cemetery (Lickcreek Section) at 11:00 AM, with Clergyman Chris Rose officiating. The family asks everyone to meet at the cemetery; there will be no procession. Pallbearers will include: Ricky Hill, Morgan Deel, Noah McCarty, Jeremy Deel, Mark Baker, Brayden Cooper, and Cody Sexton. Honorary Pallbearers include: Roby Fuller, Rodney Deel, and all of his Deel and Fuller cousins.
