Ricky Scott Artrip Sr.

Ricky Scott Artrip Sr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at his home in Clintwood, Virginia, on August 5, 2026. He was born on January 15, 1953, in Clintwood, Virginia, to his parents, Lee Charles and Billie Fern Artrip. The second of three sons, he lived his entire life in Dickenson County. On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 4:30 PM, he made the best decision of his life when he called upon the name of the Lord to save him, and he was born again. Romans 10:13 KJV, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” John 3:3 KJV, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” He was a very simple and humble man who lived a life of quiet faith and dedication to his family. He understood that his strength came from God, and he loved his family with a deep and profound love that made you feel like everything would be alright. He touched the lives of so many people with his gentle demeanor and friendly smile. He was always there to help a friend or lend a hand whenever there was a need; he always put others before himself. He loved God and made it his passion to serve God by serving others. He loved his Pound River Church family and enjoyed worshipping and fellowship with them at church and Bible study. He had one grandson, Lucas Artrip, who was his source of joy and who referred to him lovingly as “Pa.” He loved that boy with everything in him and made it his life’s mission to spoil him as much as possible. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Charles and Billie Fern Artrip, and his two brothers, Mike and Tim Artrip. He is survived by his son, Ricky Artrip Jr., and his wife, Kristy. Grandson, Lucas Grey Artrip; nephews, Jeff (Heather) Artrip, Shane Artrip, Josh (Valerie) Artrip, and Jake Artrip. Special cousins: Beth Bowers, Julie Liskey, Diana Plaine, Pam Greear, Amy Deloach, Dava Sweeney, Lesa Foster, and Cheryl Green. In addition to his family, Rick leaves behind his beloved dog Fuzzy, who has been his faithful companion for many years and has hardly left his side. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Pound River Church on Monday, August 10, 2026, with family receiving friends at 6:00 PM, and services will follow at 7:00 PM, with Clergymen Tommy Austin and Bill Rose officiating. Pallbearers will include Jeff Artrip, Shane Artrip, Josh Artrip, Jake Artrip, Steve Blansett, and Keeron Vanover. Honorary Pallbearers will include Lucas Artrip, Claudie Deel, Joel Salyers, Johnny Conaway, Tommy Austin, and Bill Rose. Interment will be at the Artrip-Stanley-Ramey Cemetery on Big Smith Ridge Road in Clintwood, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pound River Church to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers. Rick will forever be missed, but he is rejoicing today in Heaven. We will see him again if we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and are born again.
