Shirley Kelley

Shirley Delores Kelley, age 82 passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, to be with our Lord and Savior. She was at Holston Valley Hospital with her loving husband, Blaine Kelley, by her side. She was a longtime resident of Clintwood, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Lee and Novia Lydia (Phillips) Minton; her two brothers, Ernest Glenn Minton and Henry Lee Minton; and two daughters, Kimberly Eden and Kay Denise Hall. She is survived by the love of her life, Blaine Kelley, and her daughter, Karen Newton of Colorado Springs. She has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren abroad, along with countless nieces and nephews. Shirley was a pioneer in her own right. She faced many life-challenging events and handled them with grace and grit. She never allowed circumstances to prevent her from doing the right thing, even at her own expense. At age 40, she earned her nursing degree, which led to many roles in her field, including visiting nurse. She adored the elderly and fought for better care and compassion, believing they are valued regardless of their age or condition. She also volunteered in many roles with the Republican Party. She loved horses, dogs, working in her garden, and flower beds. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband and took a few cross-country trips. As a true Southern lady, she was also unafraid to voice her opinions. She loved sharing her thoughts to improve others' lives and highlight what is needed for their well-being. She spent much time in the kitchen, and no matter how long it took, it was always worth the wait. Shirley had a passion for life and never hesitated to try or do something, even if others objected. She embodied grace, elegance, courage, and determination in every aspect of her life, right up until her last breath. She will be missed, and her legacy will live on forever in our hearts. Services for Shirley will be held as follows: On Friday, September 26, 2025, the family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 PM, followed by a service at 7:00 PM, with Clergy Keith Dotson officiating, with the Southwest Virginia Nursing Honor Guard speaking as well, at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at the Phipps Family Cemetery, where the services will conclude. Pallbearers will include Eric Counts, Billy Cox, Bryant Davis, Tucker Mullins, Waylon Henderson, and Joe Fletcher.
